In this picture with Andreza, Dennis actually caught me in the middle of a sentence, when I stopped to search my brain for the right word. This is more typical than I 'd like to admit. But there are usually plenty of people around who help me with the right nouns or verb forms. Dennis puts in several hours a day studying Portuguese. My language study usually comes from reading ingredients of shelf items while grocery shopping, and in preparation instructions and recipes. Me and my trusty English-to-Portuguese/Portuguese-to English mini-dictionary . . . inseparable.
I can tell my Portuguese is getting better, because I can recognize enough individual words and short phrases and can "read" the body language and vocal inflections to get the general gist. I can't trust my interpretations, however, because I often miss vital information and get it all wrong.
